A Few Thoughts on Comics from this week

Ultimate Spider-Man #133 and Ultimatum #4 both came out this week. There's a lot going on, a little 'cya' happening, and a ton of extra super crazy violence. It does feel like a down and dirty, last ditch chance at saving the world sort of thing. It's also reminding me more and more of the big shakeup that altered the world of 2099 a decade or so ago. The declared point of all this is to make the Ultimate Universe that much more different from the mainstream Marvel Universe. That they are doing. If everything goes back to normal at the end of this? Then I'm done.

Amazing Spider-Man #596 had a fill-in artist. Not bad but disappointing. Story is still good.

Dark Avengers #5 has a neat twist in it. I'm not sure if it's going somewhere or if it'll lead to a character twist. Eitherway will work just fine.

The Muppet Show #3 tells Gonzo's Story. The insurance on the theatre is being updated and the regular performers need to be listed. The insurance company wants to know what Gonzo is and Scooter tries to find out. "That's easy," I hear you say, "Gonzo's an alien. They said so in 'Muppets from Space'." Is he? Do we know that? The Muppet movies feature the Muppet performers as actors, playing roles. This fact is made clear in the first movie as the bulk of the movie is a movie that the Muppets are watching that they performed in. The post-Henson films made this point even more clear as the Muppets take on roles from books (A Christmas Carol and Treasure Island) so why should we expect that the events of 'Muppets from Space' are suddenly accurate or 'count'? Luckily, while the comic does answer some questions, it doesn't contradict the events of 'Muppets from Space' so, you know, it could count. The book is funny too.
